At CURAKNOW, we respect your privacy and are committed to handling personal information carefully, transparently and responsibly.
This Privacy Statement explains what personal information we may collect through the CURAKNOW website, registration forms and project activities, why we collect it, how it may be used and shared, how we protect it, and what rights you have.
1. Who is responsible for your personal information?
CURAKNOW is coordinated by the Curaçao Innovation & Technology Institute (CITI) together with its project partners.
Unless otherwise stated for a specific activity, CITI is responsible for the personal information collected through the CURAKNOW website and registration processes.
For questions about your personal information, you can contact:

When you register for an activity, contact us or complete a form, we may collect information such as:
your name and contact details;

your role, profession, area of expertise or research field;
information related to your participation in an event, Science Fair, Science Squad or other CURAKNOW activity;

During CURAKNOW events and activities, photographs or video recordings may also be made.
When you visit our website, certain technical information may be processed automatically, such as information about your browser, device, IP address and how the website is accessed or used. Additional information may be collected if website analytics or similar tools are enabled.
We aim to collect only information that is relevant and necessary for the purpose for which it is requested.
3. Why do we use your information?
We may use your information to:
process registrations and organise participation in CURAKNOW activities;
communicate with participants, schools, researchers and other stakeholders;
coordinate activities between participants and CURAKNOW project partners;
organise events, school visits and other project activities;
match schools and researchers where relevant;
respond to questions or requests;

We will not use personal information for purposes that are incompatible with the reason for which it was collected.
4. Children and young people
CURAKNOW includes activities involving children and young people.
We take additional care when personal information about minors is collected. Where consent from a parent, guardian or other legal representative is required, we will use appropriate consent procedures.
Where participation is organised through a school, information may also be provided or coordinated through the school or responsible teacher.
We aim to collect as little personal information directly from children as possible and only what is necessary for their participation.
5. Photos and video
Photography and video may take place during CURAKNOW events and activities for purposes such as project documentation, reporting, promotion and communication.
Where specific consent or permission is required, particularly in relation to identifiable minors, appropriate consent procedures will be used.
Where reasonably possible, participants will also be informed when photography or filming is taking place.
If you have a concern about an image or recording in which you or your child appears, please contact info@curaknow.com.

CURAKNOW uses external digital service providers, which may include Hostinger for website services and monday.com for certain registration, coordination and project-management processes.
These providers may process information on our behalf according to their applicable privacy and data-protection arrangements.
We do not sell personal information.
7. International processing and storage
Some of the digital services used by CURAKNOW may process or store information outside Curaçao.
Where personal information is transferred internationally, we aim to use appropriate service providers and safeguards in accordance with applicable data-protection requirements.
8. How long do we keep information?
We keep personal information only for as long as it is reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and to meet any applicable project, funding, administrative or legal requirements.
Different types of information may therefore have different retention periods.
For example, information needed to organise an event may not need to be retained for the same period as information required for project reporting or a researcher database.
When personal information is no longer required, it will be deleted, anonymised or securely archived where appropriate.
9. Information security
We take reasonable organisational and technical measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure.
Access to personal information is limited to people who need it for the relevant CURAKNOW activity or service.
We also use external platforms and service providers that maintain their own security measures.
However, no method of transmitting or storing information electronically can be guaranteed to be completely secure. While we take reasonable measures to protect personal information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
